Discovering Home

Rate this book
Choosing his self-respect over his inheritance leaves him adrift. Can the sexy wine grower be his foundation, or will everything be lost?

Matt's late grandfather always supported him as an artist, but the inheritance and new vineyard he left for him came with a catch that throws everything into doubt. Life becomes even more complicated when he can’t stop thinking about Logan, the attractive wine grower his grandfather hired before he passed away.

Logan has always dreamed of making award-winning wines, so when a chance to take over and build a new winery falls into his lap, he grabs it. Unfortunately, his dreams seem to be dashed with the death of the winery owner. His life is upended, and his attraction to the late owner’s grandson just seems to make things worse.

As the two men navigate their way through family, social and legal challenges, will they be able to overcome all that’s stacked against them, or will everything they’re working for be lost?

NOTE: Discovering Home is an angsty, low-heat (no explicit sex scenes,) sweet, high drama romance.

Triggers: Religious controversy, homophobia, loss of a family member, disappointment, family drama, abandonment of adult child, ostracized family, employer/employee relationship, legal disputes

His second novel, Suzie Empowered (Feb 2020), is a followup featuring Aiden’s sister Suzie as she overcomes her fear of relationships with straight men due to a sexual assault in high school. In March, Blake returned to gay romance with his release of Bobby Transformed about an Iowa farm boy and a big city publisher. His first three novels share characters and can be read in order or randomly.

This for me is a 5/5! At one point I had to stop and wipe my eyes so I could continue reading. The author touched on some issues of religion and homosexuality and it added to the tone of the book. Matt inherits land and money from his grandfather. But before his death his grandfather makes plans to establish a winery on the land. He even hires a manager, Logan. But in order for Matt to fully inherit he has to attend a very a conservative church for a year. Matt decides against that and calls out the pastor publicly. But his grandmother has other plans. So Matt stays and he and Logan start working together. Both men are attracted to each other but they are concerned about the Bo’s/employee dynamic. Neither man wants to communicate how they feel about each other. Well the winery shows signs of being a success but there is trouble and the two men end their relationship. Of course the the two men still love each other. Some very good conversations will have to happen in order for them to work.

just the right amount of sweetness

I really enjoyed this book. It gave a fair portrayal of small town Tennessee. The relationship between Matt and Logan rings true. The information about wine making was interesting and having the dastardly Pastor Atwell made him a good antagonist. Highly recommend this book.

There are a lot of layers to this story. Not just Logan and Matt coming together, but also the death of Matt’s grandfather and all that comes with losing your last real family. Along with figuring out your dream and learning to nurture it.

Miscommunication or lack of communication leads to a number of problems but it was believable. A complication of trying to figure out your personal feelings within the wrinkle of trying to maintain a professional relationship.

Throughout their figuring themselves out, there’s a strong storyline involving religion and the church. I didn’t grow up in a religious household, so at times it felt far-fetched. Until I reminded myself of the many, many news stories I’ve read that involve the church leading the charge for hate and bigotry.

I love the family that these two created amongst their winery/artist retreat.

Disclaimer: Review is based on an ARC received by the author. All opinions are my own.

Being queer artist in the Bible Belt, it was pretty easy for me to relate to Matt. I liked how his art reflected and intertwined with his circumstances throughout the story.
I had a couple issues with the book but they were not deal breakers. The antagonist was a person that was easy to to hate, however he seemed very one dimensional until an offhand comment during the resolution. The resolution itself also seemed a bit rushed. This may have been fixed in the final version but I don’t know.
Overall though it was a sweet story and perfectly fine if you’re looking for a quick romantic read with a HEA.

love this story, ,I think this is the second book I have read by this author He really knows how to write a great story that I couldn't put down until I was done...Matt loved his grandpa and when he died suddenly then there was a huge mess with the will and grandpa church and at the same time grandpa had hired Logan to run his winery,,, so lets say there was instant attraction on both side throw in homophobic culture and a lot of missed reactions and miscommunication on both parts but there is a HEA at the end I read this book for this author for my honest opinion
