Don’t miss out on this feel-good collection in support of a good cause!
Tara Wyatt is a Canadian contemporary romance author. Known for her humor and steamy love scenes, Tara's writing has won several awards, including the Golden Quill Award and the Booksellers' Best Award. In addition, she was a 2018 RITA® Finalist for her novella, Until the Sun Sets.
When she's not hanging out with your next book boyfriend, she can be found reading, bingeing Netflix, or playing way too much Among Us. Tara lives in Hamilton, Ontario with the world's cutest dog, her daughter, and a husband who makes all her of her heroes look like chumps.
From "Delivery Day", my story in this collection (all proceeds will go to UNICEF):
“This isn’t unprofessional, right?” Kerry grazed her teeth over her husband’s jaw. Owen scooped her bottom more fully into his hands and tugged her hard against his erection. “Unprofessional would be taking off our pants. We’re not going to do that.” “We’ll just make out like teenagers.” “We’ll make out like grown adults who went to sleep at nine last night instead of fucking like rabbits, because we’re responsible.” He flexed his brawny body beneath her, his work chair creaking under the effort—but not falling apart, like the last chair did. Her lips quirked at the idea that there was anything lacking in their sex life, because her husband was just as hungry for her now as he was when they met—and she met his appetite stroke for stroke. “We did have sex last night.” “But not like rabbits. Not endlessly, all night long.” His voice rasped on those last three words. No, with a ten-month-old, the all-night sex-a-thons of their dating and early marriage were on hold. Now they had efficient bedtime couplings and mid-morning make-outs in Owen’s office to celebrate their daughter Lila being in daycare. She rolled her hips. “Good point.” On the desk behind her, one of their pagers went off. Owen craned his head. “It’s yours.”
An excerpt from "Sext Education," my epistolary smut story in this anthology:
Lola: Doing anything tonight? Me: Trying to come up with a good line about nightgowns, actually Lola: How’s that going? Me: Pretty bad! Lola: Do you want me to make this easier for you, or Me: Let me see that ankle, girl. Bet it’s well-turned
A moment later, I get a picture: Lola barefoot on a hardwood floor, squatting, her body folded in on itself. It’s a side view, but I can still see the way her cutoff denim shorts are cutting into the tops of her thighs. Fuck. I practically run to my bedroom, because I don’t need my roommate Steven walking into the kitchen and finding me standing in front of the clean dishes, dick at full mast in the gym shorts I’m wearing because it’s still hot in mid-September.
Her ankle is also in the picture. It’s a hot ankle. I’d lick it if she asked.
Me: Your calves are also pretty fucking hot Lola: So scandalous Me: I would ruin the fuck out of your reputation Lola: Not my reputation! Lola: Couldn’t you ruin something else?
I grab my iPad and folding stand and get myself settled on the bed, pillow behind my back.
Me: Maybe. What are my options? Lola: Take your pick
She sends another photo through, a body shot in a full-length mirror, her head just out of frame but her dark, shiny hair curling against her collarbones. Besides the cutoffs, all she's wearing is a skin-tight light blue tank top, cropped just above her belly button, and some sort of blue medallion necklace. She's not wearing a bra and her nipples are hard, the fabric clinging to every swell and curve, one arm propped against the wall as she leans, hips cocked, ankles crossed.
It’s. I, just. God. Fuck yes. It takes a minute for my brain to be anything but white noise.
Did I buy this just for Kelly Siskind's contribution, because I needed more Bea and Huxley? Why yes, yes I did! And of course because the money was going to a good cause as well! But mostly for Bea and Huxley- love them! The love they have for each other, ugh, this quickie showed how deep it really goes.
It was so fun to be back in New Orleans with the Marlow family! I've wanted more from this world, more of the Marlow brothers, and this book just cemented that for me- please Ms. Siskind, can we get more?!?
I bought this anthology for the Zoe York story. On that one novella alone, this purchase was worth every single penny I paid!
But anthologies can be both good and bad. On one hand you get the chance to read new-to-you authors and may discover a new favorite. However on the other...oftentimes the short stories are about characters who have their own books so it can be hard to feel connected to what's going on in the novella if you haven't read the previous book. This was certainly the case for the Zoe York submission - the story had several of my favorite couples so I loved every word.
For the rest of the stories (and I did actually read ALL of them, which is unusual for me with an anthology), some hit just right, others completely missed the mark. Some authors did a good job of giving the reader enough backstory so even if we weren't familiar with the characters it was still possible to enjoy the story. Some were authors I could definitely find myself reading their full books. But there were also a couple that were a challenge to get through - I didn't enjoy the writing style or the story.
This book was only available during July 2022, so I'm glad I didn't miss out on the Zoe York story. As for the rest, it was a perfect vacation read - great for those downtimes when nothing else was going on, or when I needed a break from the family!
Delivery Day by Zoe York Not one, not two, but THREE!!!! Yes, we get a glimpse at three beloved Pine Harbour couples after their HEA <3 Owen and Kerry, Sean and Jenna, and a surprise that will likely make you squeal in delight, as it did for me. Life is moving along in this short, but there is a lot going on, and a lot of love that binds them together. Loved it so, so, so, much!
I received a copy of Lainey Davis contribution to this anthology, in exchange for an honest review. Having read Fireball, I loved jumping right back into Lainey's easy style of writing.
I really liked that I picked up on the similarities between Doug and AJ (like how they both point fun at the principal's use of exclamation marks), but also noted the differences like how AJ was protective of the children he teaches, understanding and being empathetic to the community they're from, while Doug comes from a wealthy background and while he is eager, he still has a lot to learn from his students.
Doug and Amy's love story is sweet. I loved Amy and how driven and assertive she is, but I didn't like Doug's instant love reaction to Amy and in some ways, it made me a little uncomfortable. But I think Lainey would have hashed that out and allowed a slow burn to play out, had it not been a novella contribution.
All round a great read for an awesome cause, I can't wait to read the rest!
i've supported UNICEF my whole life. no joke. as a kid we would always raise funds for them and i continue even today to enjoy doing so ...so when i saw this was for sale (.99 cents) it would go to that charity and i love that they did it the total amount. not sure how much total ...but i pray it was lots ...or a good portion. i am familiar with Roxie Noir, Tara Wyatt, those are the ones i have read, others i know their names but yet to read them. i love it when you find get togethers like these, only wish they would do more ...hope to authors appreciate it ...i mean is it more work? i don't know. i often wonder do they keep books waiting for occasions like this?? so many questions. so many answers. LOL!!
Wow this Anthology is awesome. I truly loved all the short stories by some great authors. This is an awesome cause!! I will have to make me a list of all the authors so I can check them out as the stories I read were great!!
Hold the Blue Confetti by Arell Rivers - It was great catching up with Cole & Rose's life. Cole and Rose have been together for a long time and reading "Hold The Blue Confetti" was awesome!! Can't wait to see what's next in their lives!!
This collection of short romance stories are just what the doctor ordered. I took them in like doses of joy, getting lost in each little relationship; some sweet, some spicy. I particularly appreciated the donation of the authors royalties to the efforts in Ukraine. A shout out to Sara Whitney's story of second-chance love as Trip and Ashley re-ignite their marriage. It was relatable, believable, and satisfying.
I read Zoe York’s story first. I had read all of the couples original books and the catch up was joyful. The tale had its own exciting plot line then you get a slice of life look at each couple. Loved it!💕
Then I read Roxie Noir’s tale. The story was sweet and hella sexy. I have just begun reading Ms. Noir and love her storytelling.
A wonderful selection of stories from various amazing authors for a worthwhile charity...
Hold the Blue Confetti by Arell Rivers
A delightful catch up with Cole and Rose's life. We witness the love they share together in their journey of experiencing further joy. Arell always makes me feel romance never dims even when two people have been together for many years.
I was given a free copy by Lainey Davis for her story Lesson Plans so I’ll only review that one. Sorry for the late review but I actually enjoyed this. It’s short and sweet. It’s about Doug and Amy whom I’ve heard about from the author’s other book, Fireball. Their story is pretty cute and I like it.
Wonderful bunch of stories. All connected to the many author's ongoing series, but able to be read as standalones. Many finish a story or just revisit a series and the characters. I enjoyed them all and appreciated the authors efforts for this cause. We must not forget the Ukrainian struggle and their great needs until this war is over.
Alexa Rivers is a favourite author of mine, and I enjoyed getting more of Tione and Megan's story. Yay for bonus novellas with new-to-me authors too. 😁
“Delivery Day” This story contains HEA moments for Owen and Kerry from Reckless at Heart, Sean and Jenna from Love in a Sandstorm, and Holly and Ryan from Love on a Spring Morning.
Just read Arell's short story. I loved when it was said that perhaps their mother is ushering the Ukraine deceased into heaven. Very profound. Terrible war!!
I bought this collection because it supports UNICEF, an organization very near and dear to my heart, and their relief efforts in the Ukraine. The fact that Tara Wyatt lives in my hometown of Hamilton was an added bonus.
I am blown away by the stories and have discovered so many new favourite authors. You will NOT be disappointed.
