Winners 2022/23

The World Brand Design Society would like to take this opportunity to say a thank you to all students who entered the WBDS Student Design Awards 2021/22. Also, a massive thank you for the dedicated work from all students, educators and educational institutions worldwide for embracing the WBDS Awards; your support is paramount to the ongoing success of the community and the awards.

The WBDS Student Design Awards prides it self rigorous multiple rounds of judging; this year is no different with the Judges and Editors having reduced over hundreds student entry works down to just 51 shortlisted and winning pieces of work. The winning works include 1 Black, 7 Gold, 8 Silver, 20 Bronze and 15 Commended Awards.

The ‘WBDS Design Students of the Year’ goes to Bernardita Rodríguez, Maria Jose Quiroga and Juanita Arroyave from the Spanish design education institution ELISAVA.

Elisava is a leading design and engineering school located in Barcelona, Spain. Founded in 1961, the school has a long history of providing high-quality education in various disciplines, including design, engineering, architecture, and communication.

The 'WBDS Design Education Institution of the Year' goes to San Diego City College from the United States. San Diego City College is a public community college in San Diego, California.

San Diego City College moves second in the Global Design Education Ranking by amassing 17 awards; these included 2nd Place, 3rd Place, 2x Golds, 2x Silvers, 6x Bronzes and 5x Commended individual awards. The work highlights the students ambitions and the institution's exceptional quality of teaching. A big congratulations to the dedicated educators like Professor Sean Bacon and SDCC Faculty team. BLACK
MARK WINNERS

This year we have given out just one Black Mark Award to Bernardita Rodríguez, Maria Jose Quiroga and Juanita Arroyave from ELISAVA, of Spain for Sustainable Packaging Design. Judges described the work as “A stunningly simple concept oriented towards reuse and the circular economy”.

Bernardita Rodríguez, Maria Jose Quiroga and Juanita Arroyave wins the title of ‘WBDS Design Students of the Year’, while picking up a Black Award, Gold Award and 1st Place Winners as well as WBDS Scholarship of £2000.

GOLD
MARK WINNERS

Only seven students were handed Gold Mark Awards this year. Three notable works include first place winner: Louis Süe Collection – Sustainable Packaging Design Concept created by Bernardita Rodríguez, Maria Jose Quiroga and Juanita Arroyave from ELISAVA from Spain. A concept with an art deco aesthetic for the premium condiment jam range, with the structural packaging design oriented towards reuse and the circular economy.

The second-place winner Jonathan Welch from San Diego City College, United States, created The Monolith Graphic Design for Publication project successfully using large, bold, and visually striking elements in print publications to draw the reader's attention and effectively convey information for easy user engagement.

In third place winner, The "Why Does My Cat...?" created by Silvia Diffenderfer from San Diego City College, United States. The project is a marketing website for Purina that provides valuable and entertaining information about cat behaviour to engage a new generation of pet owners. It offers brief articles and illustrations based on typical search engine queries about cat behaviour.
